People Profile: Henry Loarridge

After completing a degree in Business and Finance at the University of Aberystwyth, Henry joined MiX towards the end of last year to support our Commercial Director, Adam Oliver.

Tell us a bit about what keeps you so busy at MiX:

My role is predominately to build relationships with key contacts in the industry and to track upcoming projects that might be of interest to the MiX business.

How did you find yourself in business development role?

I genuinely enjoy speaking to people and finding out more about them. I’m quite happy to speak to anyone and I wanted to find a role where I could use that softer skill combined with my commercial skills.

Five months in … what have you learnt about the industry?

I’ve spent most of the time understanding the breadth of service that MiX can offer and getting to grips with some of the technical terms. In an industry like this, it’s also important to understand the lifecycle of the project and where everyone fits in and at what time.

What kind of skills do you need to have to succeed a role like this?

You have to have good interpersonal skills and a willingness to talk to people. You also have to be organised to keep track of all the information you gather to ensure that all the talking will lead to some great opportunities for the business.

What do you like about working at MiX?

I like the size of the company – it’s big enough to work on a variety of projects but still small enough to have a great culture. We have a great open plan office which means people are always on hand to assist with any queries.

With such a busy day job, what do you do to unwind and relax?

Rugby is my passion and I’ve been playing since a very young age. I still try and play twice a week depending on my schedule and when I’m not on the field, I spend quite a lot of time watching England play. I live right next to Twickenham which is very handy!
